Brass lights with a sandblasted finish typically weather to an ochre colour which goes well with decking and stone. Polished brass tends to weather less predictably to a darker finish and is not widely used in garden lighting. Useful features of brass garden lights are that they are heavy enough not to be disturbed easily and are as tough as old boots – corrosion proof even on the sea shore as well as proof against impact. So brass garden lights such as the Elipta brass spike spot is a good choice where family pets or footballs may disturb lighter weight garden lights. Elipta’s Compact spotlight range is the most comprehensive range of brass wall spotlights and downlights on the market, featuring a fine sandblasted finish which looks great on stone walls as well as the ability to use the latest energy saving lamps. Surface mounted steplights such as the Pilot RANGE with eyelid or grill also feature a sandblasted finish to look good on sandstone and buff brick.
Brass is one of the best materials for underwater lighting, being mechanically robust and resistant to all chemicals as well as heavy enough not to be disturbed easily by fish or water currents. The MARINER 20-50 watt underwater light is made from cast brass, pressure-tested during manufacture and available with frosted lens or internal glare louvre options. It is supplied with a brass U bracket for fixing the range of base- or spike mount options, but it can also be used without the bracket as a waterproof uplight set into cobbles over a reservoir, or even used in bog gardens or waterlogged areas as a recessed light. Optional heavy mounting base and mounting spike assist location on planting shelves or in planting baskets. MARINER is also available with a glare shield, grill or eyelid front for control of glare in various under water lighting applications. The MARINER range is also of the best available black underwater lights, made of cast brass and powder-coated black, with the same range of optional fronts for locations where you need to ensure the origin of the light beam is hidden from view and to provide some glare prevention in “walk-around” fountains and rills.
When recessing lights into sandstone or other materials around traditional or heritage properties, sandblasted brass tops can be preferred to stainless steel. MARINER underwater lights are available with optional round or square recess niches for simple non-adjustable uplighting applications, of columns for example. Where adjustable recessed lights are required the MODULA range offers round and square brass tops for both 12v and 240v halogen recessed models while the COOLIE R range offers brass tops as an option for 35w and 70w recessed energy saving uplighting of larger trees and facades.
