Garden Lighting Help sheet No. 11: - Recessing brass uplights in paving |
|||||||||||||||||||
If you need to install recessed uplights in paving, you will want to ensure a flush, level fit and prewire the light positions without risk of damage to the lights during installation or cement spill etc spoiling the finish or making final installation difficult. The answer is to install a niche and recess tube during construction and pre-wire them to accept the uplights when construction is finished. The Amphibian and Nautilus ranges of recessed lights are IP68 rated for underwater use in fountains and ponds as well as paving and areas subject to occasional flooding or waterlogging. They are available in natural brass finish, which weathers to blend with stone, or optional chrome or powder coat colour finishes, such as granite for use in granite set driveways. It is also relativelty easy to cut paving to fit around the square recess niches for a neat finish.
NB: The lens of a recessed light fitted with a halogen lamp of more than 20watts may become very hot in use. Use models with grill where hot lenses must be shielded or where the lens should be protected from stones in tyre treads etc. |
